Summit High School in Oregon held its first track and field meet in nearly two years. Oregonian journalist John Canzano reports Oregon is the only state in the nation that requires track and field athletes to wear masks during competition. High School runner Maggie Williams was on pace to break the state record in the 800 meter race but instead she ran out of oxygen, her brain shut down, and she fell face first to the track surface as she approached the finish line. Williams stated “ I was pushing so hard and everything went blurry and I just fell”. The CDC currently states that athletes should wear a mask that covers the mouth and nose while participating in team sports.
